Governance approval rating continues downward slide in 2nd straight month
Public satisfaction with government performance has taken a notable hit in approval rating, sliding to 41% in September.
It is the second month of downward slide for approval rating, after falling from 54% in July, the highest score recorded so far for 2026, to 49% in August.
A breakdown of the approval rating shows the highest support coming from its handling three major social services in the month under review.
Thirty-three percent of respondents approved of the government's handling of agriculture and food security; 32% approved of its handling of access to capital; and 27% approved of its handling of respect for rule of law.
The latest monthly approval rating for September from NOIPolls reveals a deepening divide in citizen perception.

Regional divides and approval rating
The poll shows varying approval ratings for the government across geopolitical zones, as high as 57% in the south west, where a corresponding 37% of respondents disapprove of the performance of the government in the month preceding the poll.
That disapproval rating is the lowest for the month under review, and rises to 45% in the north east.
Both the north central and north west are a tie, with 53% of Nigerians disapproving of the performance of the government.
Disapproval rating for the government is highest in the south of the country, from 65% in the south east to 67% in the south south.
Demographic breakdowns further demonstrate that public skepticism crosses generational lines.
Disapproval is highest among elderly Nigerians, with 57% of people aged over 61 saying they disapprove of the government's performance.
Meanwhile only 48% of respondents aged 18-35 said they disapproved of the government's performance.
